Abstract:	คำมูลซึ่งไม่ทราบที่มาและความหมายในคำสองพยางค์และคำซ้อนภาษาไทยที่ใช้กันอยู่ทุกวันนี้มีอยู่ไม่น้อย คำมูลเหล่านี้บางคำไม่มีที่ใช้เป็นคำโดดในภาษาปัจจุบัน บางคำแม้จะมีปรากฏในหนังสือวรรณคดีเก่าๆ ก็ไม่ทราบความหมาย บางคำมีใช้อยู่แต่ในภาษาไทยบางถิ่น อย่างไรก็ตามความหมายของคำมูลเหล่านี้บางคำสามารถสืบสาวได้จากภาษาจีนโดยพิจารณาจากเสียงของคำเหล่านั้นในสมัยจีนโบราณและจีนเก่า เนื่องจากภาษาไทยและภาษาจีนอาจเป็นภาษาในตระกูลเดียวกันมาแต่เดิม หรืออาจยืมคำระหว่างกันในอดีตเพราะมีความสัมพันธ์กันมาแต่โบราณ
Other Abstract:	The constituents of a number of disyllabic compound words currently used in Thai have lost their original meanings. Some of them never appear as free morphemes in Thai. Others are found to be used as words with obscure meanings in old literary works. The others are used only in certain Thai dialects. However, the original meanings of some of these elements can be traced from Chinese dated back to the periods of Archaic and Ancient Chinese. This may be due to the fact that Thai and Chinese belong to the same language family or that during their long contact in the past they borrowed words from each other.
