Abstract:	บทความนี้เป็นสรุปผลการวิจัยที่วิเคราะห์ลักษณะการยืมและความเข้มข้นของการยืมภาษาอังกฤษในภาษาไทยที่ปรากฏในพระราชหัตถเลขาพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ข้อมูลที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์คือพระราชหัตถเลขาฯ ที่ตีพิมพ์ในรูปของหนังสือ 7 เล่ม ซึ่งมีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับการเสด็จประพาสทั้งในประเทศและต่างประเทศ ผู้วิจัยตั้งสมมติฐานไว้ว่าพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรงในปีต้นๆ แสดงลักษณะการยืมภาษาอังกฤษที่บ่งบอกความเข้มข้นน้อยกว่าพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรงในปีหลังๆ ผลการวิเคราะห์สอดคล้องกับสมมติฐานเฉพาะกรณีพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์ขณะเสด็จเยือนต่างประเทศ กล่าวคือเล่มที่ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์ก่อนมีความเข้มข้นของการยืมภาษาอังกฤษน้อยกว่าเล่มที่ทรงภายหลังลดหลั่นกันไปตามความก่อนหลังของปี ส่วนพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์ขณะเสด็จเยือนสถานที่ในประเทศไทยนั้น มีอัตราความเข้มข้นของการยืมภาษาอังกฤษต่ำกว่าพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรงคราวเสด็จเยือนต่างประเทศอย่างมาก และไม่ลดหลั่นกันตามความก่อนหลังของปีด้วย ทั้งนี้น่าจะเป็นเพราะทรงมอบหมายให้อาลักษณ์ซึ่งไม่มีหรือมีความรู้ภาษาอังกฤษน้อยมากเป็นผู้บันทึกเหตุการณ์ต่างๆ ของการเดินทางแทนพระองค์ โดยภาพรวมสรุปได้ว่าภาษาไทยในพระราชหัตถเลขาพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปเพราะการสัมผัสกับภาษาอังกฤษในระดับค่อนข้างเข้มข้น ดังมีหลักฐานจากการยืมคำนามจำนวนมาก คำชนิดอื่นระดับปานกลาง และมีการใช้ประโยคกรรมวาจกที่เนื่องมาจากอิทธิพลของภาษาอังกฤษด้วย
Other Abstract:	To analyze the characteristics and intensity of English borrowing in Thai as found in King Chulalongkorn’s letters and memoirs, all about his trips in and outside Thailand. It is hypothesized that his earlier writings would show less intensity of contact than later ones. The result of the analysis reveals that only the king’s writings that tell about his trips to foreign countries show the increase in the degree of intensity of English borrowings over time. The writings done during his trips in Thailand show distinctively less intensity than those done abroad. This may be due to the fact that some parts of the writings about local trips were done by the king’s secretaries, who might not know English or know very little. It is concluded that the king’s letters and memoirs show change in Thai caused by contact with English, and the contact is moderately intense, as evidenced in borrowing a large number of nouns, a considerable number of verbs and other kinds of words, and some grammatical borrowing.
