Abstract:	บทความวิจัยนี้ต้องการศึกษาว่าความเป็น “ผู้หญิง” ของผู้กำกับการแสดงละครเวทีมีส่วนสำคัญหรือไม่อย่างไรในการกำหนดเรื่องราวและกลวิธีในการกำกับการแสดงละครเพื่อสื่อสาระกับผู้ชมของตน ผู้วิจัยรวบรวมข้อมูลจากการชมละคร 20 เรื่องในเทศกาล ละครนานาชาติ ที่กำกับโดยผู้กำกับการแสดงหญิงจากเอเชีย 6 ชาติ จากการวิเคราะห์สาระของละคร พบว่าการเป็น “ผู้หญิง” ของผู้กำกับการแสดงนั้นทั้งมีและไม่มีความสำคัญในการพัฒนาและสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน เพราะความเป็นผู้หญิงเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของภูมิหลังของผู้กำกับการแสดง การเลือกเรื่องและสาระที่นำเสนอนั้นสะท้อนความคิดที่ผู้กำกับการแสดงให้ความสนใจ อันได้แก่ตัวตนและคุณค่าของผู้หญิงในสังคม กฎเกณฑ์ที่สังคมใช้บังคับให้ผู้หญิงปฏิบัติ แม้ว่าผลงานละครที่ผู้กำกับการแสดงหญิงนำเสนอนั้นมีความเฉพาะในสาระและตัวละครที่เป็นผู้หญิง แต่ประเด็นที่นำเสนอนั้นมีความเป็นสากล ซึ่งผู้กำกับการแสดงไม่ว่าเพศใดควรให้ความสำคัญเช่นกัน ส่วนการนำเสนอผลงานแก่ผู้ชมนั้น สะท้อนบริบทของสังคมและมีความหลากหลาย มีการค้นคว้าทดลองรูปแบบการนำเสนอที่จะเชื่อมโลกของศิลปะแบบดั้งเดิมกับชีวิตปัจจุบัน
Other Abstract:	This essay considers how being an Asian woman affects being a woman stage director in Asia. It focuses on how and to what degree being a woman in this part of the world shapes both the choice of play to stage and its staging to best communicate with her audience. These reflections are based on viewing more than twenty plays by Asian women directors in January 2003, as well as by separate discussions and interviews with them. The essay suggests that being a woman director in Asia has consequences that are both trivial and significant for her creative work. Since being a woman is always part of the director’s background, it influences the choice and staging of her plays. Many choices made by directors reflect their interest in problems of self-identity and the value of themselves and their work in society. Women directors may include specific characteristics that relate directly to women, but they also use the situation or issue to state more general and serious problems. These problems deal with social and cultural conflicts that are universal and are important for directors of any gender.
