| Abstract: | การศึกษาเชิงวิเคราะห์เรื่องปุโรหิตในวรรณคดีสันสกฤตและในวัฒนธรรมไทยนี้ ผู้วิจัยมีจุดมุ่งหมายที่จะศึกษาประวัติความเป็นมา คุณสมบัติ บทบาท อำนาจ หน้าที่ และความสำคัญของปุโรหิตในราชสำนักของอินเดียและของไทย ตลอดจนการกลายมาเป็นพราหมณ์พิธีของไทยในสมัยปัจจุบัน โดยมีวิธีการดำเนินการวิจัยดังนี้คือ รวบรวมข้อมูลเรื่องปุโรหิตจากคัมภีร์สันสกฤต แปลข้อมูลภาษาสันสกฤตเป็นภาษาไทย จากนั้นจึงได้ศึกษาวิเคราะห์และเปรียบเทียบกับพราหมณ์ปุโรหิตในราชสำนักไทย ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ว่า ไทยรับความเชื่อทางด้านลัทธิพราหมณ์มาจากอินเดีย โดยที่พวกพราหมณ์ได้ลงเรือสินค้ามากับพ่อค้า เดินทางมาทางคาบสมุทรมลายู ตั้งใจเผยแพร่ชักจูงให้คนเคารพบูชาในเทพเจ้าทั้งสามของพราหมณ์ และได้แสดงความรู้ของตนให้ประจักษ์แก่คนทุกชั้นตั้งแต่พระมหากษัตริย์ไปจนถึงสามัญชน พราหมณ์หลายคนได้รับราชการดำรงตำแหน่งพราหมณ์ประจำราชสำนัก เช่น ราชปุโรหิต พระมหาราชครู พราหมณ์พฤฒิบาศ เป็นต้น ต่อมาเมื่อประเทศไทยได้มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงการปกครองเป็นระบอบประชาธิปไตย และมีคณะรัฐมนตรีบริหารประเทศอำนาจของพราหมณ์ปุโรหิตจึงลดลง ในปัจจุบันนี้จึงมีแต่พราหมณ์พิธีเท่านั้น |
| Other Abstract: | It is in this analytical study on the Purothita in the Sanskrit literature and the Thai culture that the writer attempts to describe the development of the idea, the role, functions and importance of the Purohita in old India and the influence in the Thai culture. Data are collected from religious Sanskrit texts, which are then translated into Thai. A comparison of result is then made with the functions of the Purohitas in the Thai tradition. It is concluded that the concept of Purohita was imported from India into Thailand, probably through trade routes through the Malay peninsula. It is possible that the original purpose of the traders was to introduce the worship of the 3 great gods to the people of the new land, from the king down to the commoners. Many Brahmans became attached to the courts of the Thai monarchs with various titles such as Rājapurohita, Phara Mahārājakuru and Bradhipāsa. The power of these Purohita brahman has been much reduced since the time Thailand has been under the constitutional monarchs, although a number of Brahmans are kept for the performance of religious functions in several state ceremonies. |
