| Other Abstract: | Perceives the ever increasing role of computers in the information systems and services of Thai libraries and information centers deriving from the rapid increase in the number of volumes of information data, the tardiness of printing, the scattering of data, as well as the excessive costs of printing. Discusses the preparation that libraries should be involved in before advancing to the computerized system; namely : the proliferation and training of appropriate personnel, the risks in encountering problems from diverse working systems, and the types of device to be employed to suit the system. Highlights five dimensions of applying computers to the library system as follows : how to best serve the researchers and users, how to consider data systems as resources management systems, how to assemble technological data, how to serve the administrator, and how to use the computer as a total system. Proceeds to discuss respectively four major types of library tasks to be performed by the computerized system, citing document and project selection, document acquisition, library information service, and processing/data base creation. |
