| Other Abstract: | Reports on experiences and knowledge gained from the training of advanced information work organized by UNISIST, FID and IFLA and presented by the University of Sheffield, Postgraduate School of Librarianship and Information Science, England. It aims to promote the training of teachers and workers in the information field from developing countries in the information transfer process, including the development of manpower resources essential to the planning and operation of present and future information services and networks. During the first three weeks in Sheffield, the training covers and range of methods of teaching and learning in three areas of study : a) Information retrieval, b) Computers and library/information systems, and. c) Library and information systems management. The discussions and answers to the questions concerning problems of the differences between library science and information science, curricula, and needs for the generalist and subject information specialist are summarized. Considerable importance is attached to visits of observation to several university libraries, public libraries, and special libraries during the final week. |
