Other Abstract:	This article relates the library involvement in general cultural activities on both individual and community bases with the latter as yet received most attention. It denotes that there is considerable pressure on libraries to become community cultural centres and on librarians to undertake a crucial part in the cultural life of the community. It also lists the roles as well as identifies approaches to the extension of traditional library to include other cultural activities. Finally, it criticizes the poor response, so far, of the librarians to this challenge.
